RED Scarlet-W (First Video) [4K]

For over a year now I've contemplated buying a RED camera and decided to take the plunge in July. My Scarlet-W arrived while I was away in the United States and I've only been able to properly test it out in the last couple of days.

First impressions: the camera is incredible. Shooting high frame rates is something new to me and I'm keen to explore the possibilities available. Shooting in 4K and 5K really push me to better myself as a camera operator and cinematographer and force me focus on smaller aspects of the shot that I would have otherwise ignored. Additionally, the difference that RAW footage makes to post-production is astounding. I can push the colours in my shot to their extreme and still maintain clarity and sharpness. What's more, the high dynamic range that RED has become famous for means there is really nothing stopping me when pushing it to its limits in post. I'm incredibly excited to film more videos in the future with this beast and improving my own film making knowledge.

Graded using Color Finale Pro for FCPX.

Camera: RED Scarlet-W
Lenses: Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L USM; Rokinon 85mm T1.5 AS IF UMC Cine Lens
